Basic Needs Center Overview

This presentation covers a brief history of the Basic Needs Center (BNC). We will share an overview of what the center does and the services it provides, and education on food and housing insecurity. It also includes a tour of the Buff Pantry.

  • What the BNC is 
  • Services the center provides 
  • How to refer a student 
  • Where the Buff Pantry is 
  • What food and housing insecurity are and what that may look like for college students

Introduction to Managing Finances

This presentation will cover basic information for students new to finance. This will include budgeting basics, banking and credit information, savings, managing debt, and financial tools and resources. 

  Learning outcomes: Attendees will walk away with a basic understanding of financial management and resources, so they feel comfortable navigating these subjects moving forward.

How to Approach and Manage Debts

This presentation will introduce approaching and managing debts including student loans, credit cards and loans. 

  Learning outcomes: Attendees will walk away with an understanding of how to create a debt management plan and have knowledge of other helpful resources.

Ralphie’s Cooking Basics: Virtual

At this event, we will teach a recipe over Zoom to provide students with nutritional and meal prep education. 

  Learning outcomes: Attendees will walk away with knowledge of how to cook a basic meal and its nutritional benefits. 

   Length of event: 60 minutes 

   Intended audiences: Students

Nutrition for Students

Attendees will walk away with a basic understanding of nutrition including how to eat healthily on a tight schedule and budget. 

  Learning outcomes: Attendees will walk away with knowledge on how to cook a meal from scratch using basic cooking techniques.

   Length of event: 60 minutes

Mindful Eating and General Nutrition

This presentation will provide basic information on overall nutrition including a balanced diet, macro and micronutrients, and mindful eating habits. 

  Learning outcomes: 

Attendees will walk away with an understanding of mindful eating and basic nutritional information including: 

  • Elements of a balanced diet 
  • Micro and macronutrients 
  • How to navigate common nutritional challenges

Introduction to Meal Prepping

This presentation will share tips for students who are interested in meal prepping.   

  Learning outcomes:

Attendees will walk away knowing how to begin meal prepping including: 

  • Finding a recipe 
  • Making a customized meal plan 
  • Effectively maintaining a meal plan 

   Length of event: 60 minutes

Volunteer Event

This event will include a brief presentation of the Basic Needs Center followed by a service event, typically involving building food or self care kits for the Buff Pantry.

  Learning outcomes

Attendees will leave with an understanding of basic needs and what services the Basic Needs Center provides. Attendees will also walk away having made a meaningful impact on campus basic needs insecurity.
