Student life: CU Energy Club hosts Energy Frontiers Conference March 6

The CU Energy Club will host its fifth annual Energy Frontiers conference on Thursday, March 6, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event, focused on the significant energy questions of today, will feature renowned speaker and scientist, Amory Lovins. Two panels, a poster session and career fair hosting a range of entities with ties to energy will follow Lovins’ keynote speech. The conference is free and open to the public.

Exposing leafy vegetables grown during spaceflight to a few bright pulses of light daily could increase the amount of eye-protecting nutrients produced by the plants, according to a new study by researchers at the . One of the concerns for astronauts during future extended spaceflights will be the onslaught of eye-damaging radiation they’ll be exposed to. But astronauts should be able to mitigate radiation-induced harm to their eyes by eating plants that contain carotenoids, especially zeaxanthin, which is known to promote eye health.

CU-Boulder joins national pledge to double study abroad by 2020

The commitment, which will be implemented by CU-Boulder’s Study Abroad Programs office, is part of the Generation Study Abroad pledge launched today by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

College Freedom Forum at CU-Boulder March 11

The Distinguished Speakers Board and Cultural Events Board, in conjunction with CU Student Government, are collaborating with the Human Rights Foundation to bring the College Freedom Forum to campus on March 11, from 7-9 p.m. in the UMC’s Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public and will feature four, TED-style talks from human rights activists from China, North Korea, Uganda and Bahrain. Doors are scheduled to open at 6:30. The talks will be followed by a Q&A session. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
