The CU Backcountry Club is hosting a Friends of Berthoud Pass avalanche awareness presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at HUMN1B50 on the campus. Colorado has one of the highest avalanche fatality rates in the country and Friends of Berthoud Pass (FOBP) is committed to helping people enjoy the mountains safely in the wintertime without hurting themselves or others. They educate more than 1,200 people in basic avalanche safety and attendance at their classes continues to grow.

First look: 5 questions about the implementation of a no smoking policy

Earlier this semester, the Chancellor’s Executive Committee approved a non-smoking policy for the CU-Boulder campus. The policy, which will take effect Feb. 1, mandates a no smoking campus beginning Aug. 19, 2013. The decision was made in the best interests of promoting a safe and healthy campus, and represents years of policy research, campus surveys and studies of best practices in American higher education. In the first phase of the policy’s implementation, the campus will focus on policy awareness and resources for those who wish to quit smoking. In the spirit of that effort, I wanted to include the following Q&A to address some of the basic issues involved in implementing this important new policy.

Departmental Property Managers have new tools to track capital assets

On the Boulder campus, 120 Departmental Property Managers (DPMs) track and control over $285 million dollars’ worth of capital equipment. To help them accomplish this task, Accounting and Business Support (ABS), the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) and Property Services have created an online centralized point of contact called Property Central, and provide new tools and certification opportunities to make the property management process smoother and even more professional.

CU's Off-Campus Housing Fair to be held Jan. 30

CU’s annual Off-Campus Housing Fair (Jan. 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom) offers students a convenient way to view hundreds of local properties. More than 50 local landlords, property managers and real estate agents will be in the UMC for the fair. Free pizza will be served at noon and tons of giveaways also will be available. Off-Campus Housing will be giving one lucky student a 40” LED TV for his/her new rental.

Find ways to get involved and discover new interests during the spring Student Involvement Fair on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. The fair is a great way to find out about the huge variety of ways to get involved at CU-Boulder. Representatives from more than 75 active student groups will be at the fair. There will also be free food and snacks for all students in attendance, as well as the opportunity to win some great prizes.
