The University of Colorado at Boulder today announced that a computer server in the College of Arts and Sciences' Academic Advising Center, which had been recently attacked with a worm, had exposed 44,998 student names and Social Security numbers, prompting the campus to institute a new series of Information Technology security measures. The students, enrolled at CU-Boulder from 2002 to the present, are being notified by the University of Colorado at Boulder's College of Arts and Sciences.

Saturn's largest and most dense ring is composed of tightly packed clumps of particles separated by nearly empty gaps, according to new findings from NASA's Cassini spacecraft. The clumps in Saturn's B ring are neatly organized and constantly colliding, which surprised scientists.

Nine undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder have received the prestigious Jacob Van Ek Award. The recipients were honored this month for outstanding academic achievement and contributions to the university and Boulder communities. The faculty members the students named as mentors also were recognized. The award was established in 1973 to honor Jacob Van Ek, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at CU-Boulder from 1929 to 1959. Van Ek died in 1994 at the age of 97.
