MEDIA ADVISORY The University of Colorado at Boulder has accepted the chief recommendations of the Licensing Advisory Committee, which has expressed qualified support for the Designated Supplier Program proposed by the national United Students Against Sweatshop Apparel and campaigned for on the Boulder campus by students and others aligned with the Coalition Against Sweatshop Apparel (CASA).

CU-Boulder Graduate Is First Alum To Win Gates Scholarship For Study At Cambridge University

CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium To Hold Saturn Celebration April 27-28

Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host four evening talks on April 27-28 to celebrate CU-Boulder's role in the successful and ongoing Cassini spacecraft mission to Saturn. Researchers involved in the Cassini mission will give talks each evening at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. in the planetarium.

Two CU-Boulder Faculty To Be Inducted Into National Academy Of Sciences

Two women faculty members from the University of Colorado at Boulder will be inducted into the National Academy of Sciences on Saturday, April 22, in a ceremony in Washington, D.C. University of Colorado Museum Director and anthropology Professor Linda Cordell and Deborah Jin, a fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and an associate adjoint professor in CU-Boulder's physics department, will be honored at the ceremony in the NAS Great Hall. The public induction ceremony will be followed by a reception.

CU-Boulder Licensing Advisory Committee Issues Recommendation

MEDIA ADVISORY The Licensing Advisory Committee of the University of Colorado at Boulder has forwarded a recommendation of "qualified support" for a proposal on a Designated Suppliers Program, which is being promoted by a national student organization including the group's CU-Boulder chapter. The recommendation was submitted on April 18 by Professor William Wei, chair of CU-Boulder's Licensing Advisory Committee, to Vice Chancellor for Administration Paul Tabolt. A copy of the recommendation letter is included below and attached.

SpaceShipOne Designer Among Distinguished Engineering Alumni Honored By CU-Boulder

The University of Colorado at Boulder will honor four distinguished engineering alumni at the 41st annual Engineering Awards Banquet on April 21. The recipients include the chief aerodynamicist for SpaceShipOne, which won the $10 million Ansari X-Prize, an expert in marine structures who helped to design the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, a CU-Boulder faculty member in chemical engineering and a professor of computer science at the University of Tokyo. Media Ethics Scholar To Speak At CU-Boulder April 27

Clifford G. Christians, a leading scholar in media ethics, will present "Truth in a Technological Age" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on April 27. The event will be held at 7 p.m. in Norlin Library's British and Irish Studies room as part of the annual Ralph L. Crosman Memorial Lecture. It is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and is free and open to the public.

CU-Boulder Biologist Wins University's Top Teaching And Research Award

The University of Colorado at Boulder's highest faculty recognition for teaching and research, the Hazel Barnes Prize, has been awarded to biology professor and Presidential Teaching Scholar Alexander Cruz. Cruz will receive an engraved University Medal and a $20,000 cash award, the largest single faculty award funded by CU-Boulder. He will be recognized at the spring commencement ceremony May 12 and a reception in his honor will be held during the fall 2006 semester.
