Evolution, Intelligent Design And Physics To Be Topic Of March 18 CU-Boulder Talk

The facts in the ongoing debate about evolutionary theory and intelligent design will be discussed during a Saturday Physics Series talk March 18 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Jamie Nagle, an associate professor of physics at CU-Boulder, will present his talk on "Evolution, Intelligent Design Creationism and Physics" at 2 p.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30. The presentation is free and open to the public and is intended for high school students, teachers and adults.

Lisa Ling Of 'Oprah' And 'The View' To Talk At CU-Boulder March 9

Lisa Ling, journalist and contributor to well-known TV shows "The View" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show," will offer a free public talk March 9 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Ling's presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom located in the University Memorial Center on the CU-Boulder campus. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Cameras or recording devices of any kind are not permitted at the event.

Antarctic Ice Sheet Losing Mass, According To CU-Boulder Study

University of Colorado at Boulder researchers have used data from a pair of NASA satellites orbiting Earth in tandem to determine that the Antarctic ice sheet, which harbors 90 percent of Earth's ice, has lost significant mass in recent years. The team used measurements taken with the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, or GRACE, to conclude the Antarctic ice sheet is losing up to 36 cubic miles of ice, or 152 cubic kilometers, annually. By comparison, the city of Los Angeles uses about 1 cubic mile of fresh water annually.

CU-Boulder Club Sports Teams Won Five National Championships In 2005

Club sports athletes at the University of Colorado at Boulder won national championships in five different sports in 2005, continuing a little-known but long tradition of athletic and academic excellence at the university. "2005 is one of the best years we've ever had," said club sports director Kris Schoech. "CU club sports may go largely unnoticed locally, but we are recognized around the country as one of the top three collegiate club sports programs."

Denver Conference To Highlight Model Programs Proven To Reduce Violence, Delinquency And Drug Use

More than 900 people will gather in downtown Denver March 13-15 for a first-of-its-kind conference focused on programs scientifically proven to prevent or reduce youth violence, delinquency and drug use. Nationally renowned experts on youth development will speak at the Blueprints Conference hosted by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The sold-out event will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place.

CU-Boulder Committees On Diversity And Women Name Service Award Recipients

The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs and the Chancellor's Committee on Women at the University of Colorado at Boulder have selected recipients of 2005-06 service recognition awards. The CACMA awards are given to campus units to recognize continuing efforts to create a diverse, supportive, learning, working and living environment for the multicultural campus community. This year's CACMA award recipients include the Integrated Teaching and Learning program and the INVST Community Studies program.

LASP To Dedicate $13 Million Expansion To Space Technology Building March 2

The free public event presented by the CU-Boulder Center for Asian Studies will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fleming Law Building on the Boulder campus. The law building is located near the corner of Baseline and Broadway, south of Fiske Planetarium and is accessed via Regent Drive.
