Hundreds of students from throughout Colorado will converge on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus to compete in Colorado History Day, which is part of the largest national humanities education program in the country. °µÍø½ûÇø 500 students in grades six through 12 will compete in the event, which is free and open to the public, on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the CU-Boulder campus. The winners will represent Colorado in the National History Day competition in June, where students from 48 states will compete for national awards.

Chancellor Richard L. Byyny of the University of Colorado at Boulder today announced several new initiatives designed to supplement on-going campus efforts aimed at reducing high-risk alcohol use by students. The new initiatives will add more intensified research on alcohol issues on college campuses, expand CU-Boulder's education and intervention programs, and strengthen campus sanctions for violations of alcohol rules and laws, Byyny said. The new initiatives will be implemented by fall 2004, he said.

Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder will soon have additional living space and new recreational facilities at Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village. A second 499-bed apartment building is scheduled to open Aug. 16. Construction of a new commons building to house a recreation center, police annex, leasing office and multipurpose facility began last month and is scheduled to open in September.

Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder will celebrate Engineering Days April 12 through April 16 with a series of fun and challenging events including robotics and rocket competitions and the annual College Egg Drop. Hosted by the University of Colorado Engineering Council and sponsored by various corporations and professional societies, Engineering Days is an annual celebration of the engineering profession and a chance for students to apply their engineering skills in fun and creative ways.

Nearly two-thirds of online Americans use the Internet for faith-related reasons, according to a new Pew Internet & American Life Project survey conducted by two University of Colorado at Boulder professors. The 64 percent of Internet users who perform spiritual and religious activities online represent nearly 82 million Americans, according to Stewart Hoover and Lynn Schofield Clark of the CU-Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The physics of music and the tools used by nuclear and particle physicists to make the invisible visible will be highlights of two separate April 17 presentations at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The CU Wizards show "The Physics of Music" will take place at 9:30 a.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30. At 2 p.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30, the CU-Boulder physics department will present "Making the Invisible Visible" as part of its Saturday Physics Series. Both shows are free and open to the public.

Bruce Babbitt, the former Arizona governor who served as secretary of the interior for eight years under President Clinton, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder on April 20. Babbitt will speak at 7 p.m. in the University Memorial Center's Glenn Miller Ballroom, in a conversation with CU-Boulder history and environmental studies Professor Patricia Nelson Limerick and Distinguished Professor of law Charles Wilkinson. The talk is free and open to the public.

The Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Leeds School of Business has been ranked 15th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in its 2005 Best Graduate Schools edition, up from 17th in the 2004 ranking. This year's ranking marks the fifth consecutive year the program has been ranked among the top 20 programs nationally.

A "Schindler's List" Holocaust survivor and a documentary filmmaker will be keynote speakers at the University of Colorado at Boulder's 20th Annual Holocaust Awareness Week, April 18-23. Survivor Zev Kedem will talk about his fight for life on April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. Joshua Greene, director and producer of the PBS documentary "Witness: Voices From the Holocaust," will appear April 22 at 6 p.m. in UMC room 235.
