MEDIA ADVISORY The Boulder Faculty Assembly will meet from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today to discuss a draft proposal for reform of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The meeting will be held in room 157 of the Fleming Law Building on the CU-Boulder campus. Television crews planning to attend should arrive before the meeting begins and set up in the left rear corner of the room.

The booms and bangs of chemical reactions will reverberate at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Saturday, May 15, during the CU Wizards show "Polymers, Foams and Pressures." Associate professor of chemistry Tarek Sammakia's show will take place at 9:30 a.m. in Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry room 140. It is free and open to the public. CU Wizards is an annual series during the school year that introduces topics in astronomy, chemistry and physics and is intended primarily for students in grades five through nine.

The CU-Boulder Friends of the Libraries will present a talk by local mystery writer Bonnie Ramthun at the l2th annual Just Desserts event on Friday, May 21. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Fleming Law Building on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. A dessert reception will precede the program.

Editors: Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend the May 12 groundbreaking adjacent to the LASP building at 1234 Innovation Drive, bordering Colorado Avenue between the Foothills Parkway and 30th Street. CU-Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics will break ground May 12 on a $13 million expansion of its primary research building, adding much needed elbow room for LASP's booming space construction, mission operations and research programs.

MBA students from the University of Colorado at Boulder and University of Denver will square off on Wednesday, May 12, to see who has the best development plan for one of the premier sites in downtown Denver. The Rocky Mountain Real Estate Challenge will be held at Invesco Field at Mile High beginning at 5 p.m. The competition will put Leeds School of Business real estate students and Daniels College of Business students on a collision course to see whose plan to develop the Tabor Center II site will win out.

People who plan to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder commencement ceremony May 7 at 8:30 a.m. in Folsom Stadium will join a crowd of about 20,000 and should plan an early arrival. No tickets are required for the ceremony, which will be held in Folsom Stadium regardless of the weather. The majority of the parking for the ceremony will be in lot 436 on Regent Drive, just south of Colorado Avenue.

When University of Colorado at Boulder senior Jennifer Willeke of Otis, Colo., attends commencement on May 7 she will become the second Willeke family member to graduate as a Boettcher Scholar from CU. Her sister, the third to hold the distinction, is currently enrolled at CU. All grew up in the town of about 500 people on the plains of northeast Colorado.

While researching news stories on Monica Lewinsky as he organized a conference on the impeachment of President Clinton, CU-Boulder Law Professor Paul Campos discovered many stories referring to Lewinsky as overweight or fat -- something he found odd, but also revealing, about America's obsession with body image and weight. Intrigued, Campos spent the next couple of years scrutinizing medical studies and interviewing leading doctors, scientists, eating-disorder specialists and psychiatrists about the issue.

A major push in China for university professors and students to teach and learn in English will send CU-Boulder graduates and faculty to China this summer to teach the language. The opportunity is the result of a partnership forged by the University of Colorado at Boulder with Xi'an Jiaotong University, a major technical and research university in Xi'an, China. The school is ranked as one of the top 10 universities in China, according to Anne Bliss, a faculty member in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric.
