Approximately 3,500 cyclists, support staff and fans will converge June 19 at the University of Colorado at Boulder to begin the 431-mile Ride The Rockies bicycle tour. Registration, seminars, food and entertainment will be available on campus from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Organizers expect about 850 tour participants to camp in designated areas on campus June 19. All Ride The Rockies events, except for the bicycle tour and camping, are open to the public.

Building proctors, laboratory managers and students, faculty and staff members at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be recognized for their efforts to reduce energy consumption in campus buildings through a new conservation program beginning this fall.

A group of University of Colorado at Boulder students toured cities in the southern United States that played major roles in American civil rights history June 7-12 as part of an exchange program with Dillard University, a historically black liberal arts college in New Orleans.

"Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend," a national traveling exhibition that focuses on the brilliant monarch who ruled England from 1558 until 1603, opens at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Norlin Library on June 25 for six weeks. Organized by the Newberry Library of Chicago in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office, the free exhibition shows how Elizabeth I transformed England into one of the most powerful and culturally rich countries in the world.

A basketball cannon and a skateboarding physicist are two of the highlights of the CU Wizards show "The Physics of Sports" to be presented on Saturday, June 19, on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. Physics professors Deborah Jin and John Bohn will present their show at 9:30 a.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30. It is free and open to the public.

Instead of spending summer vacations sitting in air-conditioned movie theaters or playing computer games, 16 students from Denver's Thomas Jefferson and North high schools will get the chance to make their own digital movies and set up their own computer networks. DigitalCUrrents Summer Day Camp, which runs for three weeks until June 25 on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus, gives students the ability to learn about technology with hands-on projects.

Grand Junction children will learn how to create the toy of their dreams - including building a prototype, developing a marketing plan, and advertising it on the World Wide Web - during a creative engineering workshop brought to the Western Colorado Math and Science Center by the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Stephen Lawrence, an associate dean of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named interim dean of the school effective July 1. His appointment is pending approval by the Board of Regents at the June 30 meeting and will be effective for one year. Lawrence will take over the post to be vacated by current Dean Steven Manaster, who in March announced he would not seek reappointment when his contract as dean expires on June 30.
