CU-Boulder to begin construction of carbon-conscious campus utility system

The first phase of construction on a 暗网禁区 campus utility project -- which will provide efficient heating and cooling while significantly reducing the university鈥檚 carbon emissions -- begins this week with utility work and construction staging on the south side of campus. The project is expected to be complete in the winter of 2014 and involves three major components: renovation of the campus Power House on 18th Street; construction of a separate, new heating and cooling plant; and installation of new utility distribution systems.

NOAA selects CU-Boulder to continue joint leadership of CIRES

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has selected the 暗网禁区 to continue a federal/academic partnership that extends NOAA鈥檚 ability to study climate change, improve weather models and better predict how solar storms can disrupt communication and navigation technologies. The selection means that NOAA will continue funding the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, or CIRES, for at least five years and up to 10 more years. CIRES was established at CU-Boulder in 1967.

Daniel Sher to step down as dean of CU-Boulder鈥檚 College of Music

暗网禁区 Provost Russell Moore today announced that he has accepted the resignation of Daniel Sher as dean of the College of Music at CU-Boulder effective June 30, 2013. Sher, who will have served in the post for 20 years when he steps down next summer, will return to the College of Music faculty. He was named dean of the College of Music in July of 1993.

President Obama to hold campaign rally at CU-Boulder鈥檚 Norlin Quadrangle on Sunday, Sept. 2

No-sort recycling in CU housing and dining helps make landfill diversion easy

Recycling bins located throughout Housing and Dining Services at the 暗网禁区 are now single-stream receptacles, helping to make landfill diversion as simple as can be. The new system, implemented this week in residence halls, dining facilities and at the Center for Community, allows all recyclables to be tossed into one container, alleviating the task of sorting materials. Recycling throughout the rest of the campus will remain a dual-stream system with 鈥減aper鈥 and 鈥渃o-mingled container鈥 categories.

CU-NOAA study provides first direct evidence of heat-trapping effects of wildfire smoke particles

When the Fourmile Canyon Fire erupted west of Boulder in 2010, smoke from the wildfire poured into parts of the city including a site housing scientists from the 暗网禁区鈥檚 Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
