Water Takes Center Stage At CU 'wizards' Show Nov. 19

Audience members can learn more about the nature of water Nov. 19 at "H2O," the third CU Wizards show of the season at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Professor Casey Hynes of chemistry and biochemistry will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. The show, aimed at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.

Robert A. Williams, professor of law and American Indian studies at the University of Arizona, and Bruce E. Johansen, professor of communication and Native American studies at the University of Nebraska/Omaha, have resigned from the investigative committee recently named to investigate research misconduct allegations against CU-Boulder Professor Ward Churchill.

CU Leeds Team, MIT Named Only Case Competition Finalists To Compete In Germany Next Week

A last-minute decision to enter an international business case competition has led to an all-expenses-paid trip to Germany next week for a team of students from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The team was named one of 12 finalists out of 180 teams in the Business Masters 2005, an international case studies competition hosted by the University of Karlsruhe in Karlsruhe, Germany. Teams from the Leeds School and the Sloan School of Business at MIT are the only two U.S. representatives in the finals.

CU To Host Public Celebration, Tours Of Winning Solar Decathlon Home

More than 100,000 people visited CU's zero-energy solar home last month during the second international Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C., and now Coloradans have a chance to see it too. A public celebration of the CU team's back-to-back victories in the contest will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., starting with a presentation in the Mathematics Building Auditorium, room 100. The Math Building is located on Colorado Avenue at Folsom Street.

Author Pam Houston And Others To Address Wolves' Return To Southwest At Nov. 21 CU-Boulder Event

A new anthology about reintroducing wolves in Colorado and the Southwest will be discussed by a panel of three writers including Pam Houston on Monday, Nov. 21, at a University of Colorado at Boulder event. The speakers will discuss the book "Comeback Wolves: Western Writers Welcome the Wolf Home" at 7 p.m. in Old Main Chapel. A book signing at 6:30 p.m. will precede the talk, which is free and open to the public. CU-Boulder's Center of the American West and the CU-Boulder Creative Writing Program are co-sponsoring the event.

CU-Boulder Attorney Louise Romero Dead At 58

Louise Romero, managing senior associate university counsel for the University of Colorado at Boulder, died Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care of Pueblo. She was 58 years old. CU-Boulder Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and respected colleague. The entire campus community has benefited from her considerable intellect, her legal expertise and her genuine dedication to higher education. We will always value the time, far too short, that she spent with us."

Engineers Without Borders To Host Filtrón Workshop At CU-Boulder

The University of Colorado at Boulder chapter of Engineers Without Borders and the nonprofit organization Potters for Peace will host a one-day workshop on the manufacture and use of the Filtrón, a sustainable water filtration technology that can significantly improve the quality of drinking water in developing communities. The intensive, hands-on workshop will be held Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Discovery Learning Center. The fee is $5 for students and $20 for non-students. Lunch will be provided.

CU-Boulder College Of Engineering And Applied Science Names New Associate Dean

University of Colorado at Boulder Professor Victor M. Bright has been appointed associate dean for research in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The appointment, announced by Dean Robert H. Davis, was effective Oct. 31. Bright replaces Stein Sture, who was recently named interim vice chancellor for research and dean of the Graduate School at CU-Boulder.

CU-NOAA Scientist Forecasts Above Average Mountain Moisture

The mountains of Colorado could be in for a wetter-than-average winter this season, according to Klaus Wolter, a CU-Boulder and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist. "Once we get past the fall season it looks like the mountains of Colorado are in for a wet winter," said Wolter. His forecast also indicates the mountains of Utah should see above-average moisture this winter.
