Harry Boyte, a national and international expert on civic engagement, will speak on "Higher Education: Architects of a Democratic Way of Life" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Oct. 27. Boyte will talk from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in University Memorial Center room 235. The talk is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement and is free and open to the public.

The tracks of a previously unknown, two-legged swimming dinosaur have been identified along the shoreline of an ancient inland sea that covered Wyoming 165 million years ago, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder graduate student.

The newest discoveries and pictures from the Cassini spacecraft exploring Saturn will be presented at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Oct. 27-28. Josh Colwell, a co-investigator on Cassini's ultraviolet camera and a research associate at CU-Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, will present "Cassini Update" at 7:30 p.m. on both days.

Donald Hornig, White House science adviser to former President Lyndon Johnson from 1964 to 1969, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel. The free, public event is part of a year-long lecture series titled "Policy, Politics and Science in the White House: Conversations with Presidential Science Advisers," sponsored by CU-Boulder's Center for Science and Technology Policy Research.

The University of Colorado has again won the first-place trophy in the international Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C., it was announced today. CU was one of 18 universities competing in the Department of Energy-sponsored event, which began Oct. 7 and continues through Sunday on the National Mall, the pedestrian way connecting the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Cornell University placed second and California Polytechnic State University finished third.

The life of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who was among the most famous Americans in the world in the late 19th century, is the topic of a free public talk Oct. 25 at the University of Colorado at Boulder by guest historian Louis Warren. Warren will discuss his book, "Buffalo Bill's America" at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel on the CU-Boulder campus. Warren is a professor of history at the University of California, Davis.

Audience members at the Oct. 22 "Light, EnergyÂ… Reaction!" CU Wizards show at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be invited to predict the outcome of a variety of chemical experiments. Professor Veronica Bierbaum, a chemistry and biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. The show, aimed at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.

University of Colorado at Boulder graduate student Saqib bin Sohail, of Pakistan, is coordinating a drive to collect winter clothing, blankets and tents for victims of the Oct. 8, 7.6-magnitude earthquake, which has left thousands of Pakistanis homeless and without basic necessities.

Edward Craighead, professor and chair of the psychology department at the University of Colorado at Boulder has won a national award in recognition of his contributions to the field of clinical psychology. Craighead received the Florence Halpern Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Clinical Psychology. The American Psychological Association's Society of Clinical Psychology gives the award.
