Class project leads to holiday benefit concert for the homeless

One student’s class project has led him to see homeless people in a new light. The result of his experience is a holiday concert to benefit the homeless. Like many people, Joe Cherof, a freshman majoring in business, had walked by homeless musicians playing on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall. Cherof would sometimes toss a couple of dollars into their hat. That all changed the day Cherof noticed a familiar face playing music on the mall.

The Disclosure of External Professional Activity (DEPA) annual reporting period for 2013 will occur Jan. 15, 2013 through March 31, 2013. The reporting form will be modified to accommodate new regulatory changes. The CU-Boulder campus Office of Conflict of Interest & Commitment wants to make sure that personnel who have to file this form, or support the filing process, familiarize themselves the requirements and procedures.

CU-led team receives $9.2 million DOE grant to engineer E. coli into biofuels

A team led by the has been awarded $9.2 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Energy to research modifying E. coli to produce biofuels such as gasoline. “This is a fantastic opportunity to take what we have worked on for the past decade to the next level,” said team leader Ryan Gill, a fellow of CU-Boulder’s Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute, or RASEI. “In this project, we will develop technologies that are orders of magnitude beyond where we are currently.”

Leeds student takes 'gaming' to another level

Leeds School of Business student Zhenghua Yang and a team of programmers, artists and game designers melded their passion for video games into Serenity Forge, an independent video game developing company. Surprisingly, the Boulder based company was created in 2008 while the founders were still in high school, said Yang. Now, team members work remotely, reporting to Yang, who is the head programmer, from establishments around the country such as Stanford University and St. Olaf College.

Positive, broad-based job growth forecast for Colorado in 2013, says CU Leeds School of Business

Wobbekind’s announcement is part of the 48th annual Colorado Business Economic Outlook Forum presented Dec. 3 by the Business Research Division of the Leeds School.
