We are deeply concerned about recent reports of racist incidents on or near the Boulder campus. These incidents range from racist graffiti in residence halls to an altercation in a classroom involving racist epithets. We understand that some African American students recently visiting Boulder for a national conference reported experiencing acts of discrimination in the community.

Distinguished Professor Charles Wilkinson of the University of Colorado at Boulder will launch his new and highly praised book, "Blood Struggle: The Rise of Modern Indian Nations," with a public reading on March 16. The noted author of 12 previous books and renowned scholar of American Indian law will read from his book at 7 p.m. in the Boulder Public Library Auditorium at 1000 Canyon Blvd. The free event is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West, the Boulder Public Library Foundation and the Native American Rights Fund of Boulder.

The women's studies program at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host several events in March, including a conference on "Recasting Feminism in the Academy" on March 7. The program also will present its annual Women and Gender Dialogue Series beginning March 9. All events are free and open to the public. The one-day conference, in celebration of the department's 30th anniversary, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in University Memorial Center room 235. A closing reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage.

A new study led by the University of Colorado at Boulder indicates that two natural atmospheric processes in 2004 caused the largest decline in upper stratospheric ozone ever recorded over the far Northern Hemisphere.

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Leeds School of Business, in partnership with the NorthStone Group, a Colorado-based consulting firm, will offer two new spring courses titled The Six Questions of Leadership and Humanizing the Negotiation Process. The two-day courses will be offered to business executives seeking to strengthen their leadership and negotiation skills.

Unprecedented research into child sex trafficking in the post-war nation of Bosnia-Herzegovina suggests that public perceptions of the problem and some kinds of intervention efforts around the globe may be misguided, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder sociologist.

Women interested in exploring career opportunities in math, science, engineering and technology are invited to register for the University of Colorado at Boulder's annual "Engineering Career Day for Women" on Saturday, March 12. The program, which runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and open to women in high school or community college. Participants will learn about different majors and visit laboratories for demonstrations of engineering and technology, including projects in aerospace engineering, fluid dynamics, computer science and other areas.

Angela Y. Davis, an internationally known activist, and Reggie Rivers, Denver Post columnist and former Denver Bronco, will each offer free public presentations at the University of Colorado at Boulder in early March. Davis will speak about multiculturalism March 1 and Rivers will discuss issues facing African-American athletes in higher education settings on March 7. Both events begin at 7 p.m. in the University Memorial Center's Glenn Miller Ballroom and will be followed by receptions. The talks are sponsored by the CU-Boulder Cultural Events Board.

Long-time University of Colorado womenÂ’s basketball coach Ceal Barry, who announced Feb. 24 she is retiring after 22 seasons at the reins of the Buffalo program, was named to the vacant assistant athletic director for student services position by CU Athletic Director Jack Lengyel.
