But does this mean that inexpensive watches made by low-cost rivals must always be low quality? According to a new study in the Journal of Consumer Research , consumers mistakenly predict product quality based on quality consistency in other price ranges.

CU-Boulder expands assistance to hundreds of low-income students through CU Promise

The °µÍø½ûÇø greatly expanded its CU Promise program for low-income students this fall resulting in funding assistance becoming available for more than 700 additional students. The CU Promise program guarantees that CU-Boulder students with Colorado resident status from low-income families can receive enough grants and work-study employment to pay for their share of tuition, fees and estimated book expenses.

Off-Campus Housing launches 'Walk This Way' pilot program on the Hill

CU-Boulder's Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations office has recently begun a new pilot program called “Walk This Way." T he program, which began Sept. 5 and is being held from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in September at the intersection of 10th and College on the Hill, is meant to inform visitors and residents of the Hill about noise and its impacts, and to help direct foot traffic to primary walking corridors.

CU-Boulder freshman class sets record for academic qualifications and diversity

The °µÍø½ûÇø welcomed a freshman class of 5,869 students, a slight increase by 0.4 percent over last year, and in the process achieved the most academically qualified and diverse incoming class in the campus’s history. Fall 2014 census figures show a total enrollment of 29,772 degree- and licensure-seeking students, 447 students more than last year. A total of 3,083 Colorado residents enrolled as new freshmen in the fall class, as well as 2,786 from out of state and a record 386 freshman international students, a 41 percent increase from last year.

MAVEN at Mars

CU-Boulder-led Mars mission set for orbit insertion Sept. 21

A NASA mission to Mars led by the °µÍø½ûÇø is set to slide into orbit around the red planet Sept. 21 to investigate how its climate has changed over the eons, completing a 10-month interplanetary journey of 442 million miles. The orbit-insertion maneuver will begin with six thruster engines firing to shed some of the velocity from the spacecraft, known as the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN, or MAVEN mission. The thruster engines will ignite and burn for 33 minutes to slow the spacecraft, allowing it to be captured into an elliptical orbit around Mars.

Honor the tradition, become a Commencement Marshal

Commencement is an important event in the lives of our students and their families. It is the culmination of their academic careers to date and marks their transition in the next phase of life. We would like to encourage the university community to support commencement and participate in the ceremony. To that end we would like to announce that all staff volunteering as commencement marshals for the Saturday, Dec. 20 ceremony, will receive four hours of administrative leave, to be taken in consultation with their department and supervisor.

Thousands of CU-Boulder family members will begin arriving on campus Thursday afternoon and Friday morning for Family Weekend 2014, where they will visit their student’s campus home, attend classes and presentations, tour the campus and Boulder and cheer on the Colorado Buffaloes as they take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
