City Council Honors CU-Boulder's Phil DiStefano For Improving Town-Gown Ties

Phil DiStefano, former interim chancellor of the University of Colorado at Boulder, was honored this week by the Boulder City Council "for playing a key role in strengthening the relationship between the university and the city." Mayor Mark Ruzzin and the council approved a resolution that also saluted DiStefano for 32 years "of distinguished teaching, scholarship and leadership" and for "contributing greatly to making Boulder a first-rate community."

CU-Boulder Center Of The American West Presents 'Tonight! Buffalo Bill!' Aug. 14 At Chautauqua Auditorium

Two-time Grammy and two-time Emmy nominee Bill Mooney of Boulder will perform an original one-man show as famed frontier showman William F. Cody in "Tonight! Buffalo Bill!" Aug. 14 at Chautauqua Auditorium. The show, written by Mooney especially for the Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. The auditorium is located in Chautauqua Park at Baseline Road and Ninth Street in Boulder. Tickets are $10 at the door and $7 for Colorado Chautauqua Association members.

No Injuries Reported After Experiment In CU-Boulder Lab Causes Chemical Reaction Resulting In Small Fire

A chemistry experiment in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building at the University of Colorado at Boulder went awry at about 2 p.m. today and caused a chemical reaction resulting in a small fire but no injuries occurred. Five undergraduate students were conducting a standard experiment underneath a fume hood when too much hydrogen gas apparently was produced, CU Police said. There was a chemical reaction and subsequent small fire that the students put out with a fire extinguisher. Damage was limited to the fume hood and was minor.

The annual Perseid meteor shower will be visible in the night sky throughout Colorado in early August, according to experts at the University of Colorado at BoulderÂ’s Fiske Planetarium. The natural nighttime light show will peak on Aug. 12, but will be less spectacular this year because of a nearly full moon, according to Doug Duncan, director of CU-BoulderÂ’s Fiske Planetarium and Sommers-Bausch Observatory.

CU-Boulder Issues Alert On Flooding For Campus Facilities On Boulder Creek
