A specific date for release of the review related to CU-Boulder Professor Ward Churchill has not been determined but it appears unlikely the report will be completed and released before March 14. CU-Boulder Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano and his administrative team are continuing their work to finalize the review related to Professor Churchill. The chancellor has said he will take the necessary time to conduct a fair and thorough review, even if it requires some additional time beyond his goal of the week of March 7.

Relief from one of the driest Februaries ever along the Front Range may be on the way as more snow and rain appears headed to Colorado, according to atmospheric scientist Klaus Wolter of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Shifting weather patterns and the possibility of a re-emerging El Niño event indicate a better-than-normal chance for wet weather across much of Colorado in March, Wolter said.

CU-Boulder Friends of the Libraries will present its spring "Treasures" event, "I Just Happened To Be ThereÂ… Making Music With the Stars," on Friday, March 18. Performing at 7 p.m. will be Nick Perito, longtime conductor, composer, arranger and accompanist for many of the world's most famous entertainers.

University of Colorado at Boulder Professor Harvey Segur will give the Graduate School's 97th Distinguished Research Lecture March 9th on the topic of ocean waves, including their role in the deadly Dec. 26th Asian tsunami. The talk is free and open to the public and will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Club Room at Folsom Stadium across from Gate 9. The Graduate School's Council on Research and Creative Work is sponsoring the talk.

A variety of Asian culture will be on display Saturday, March 12, at "Asia Day" presented by the Center For Asian Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The free public event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fleming Law Building on the CU-Boulder campus. The Fleming Law Building is located near the corner of Baseline and Broadway, south of Fiske Planetarium and is accessed via Regent Drive.

We are deeply concerned about recent reports of racist incidents on or near the Boulder campus. These incidents range from racist graffiti in residence halls to an altercation in a classroom involving racist epithets. We understand that some African American students recently visiting Boulder for a national conference reported experiencing acts of discrimination in the community.

Distinguished Professor Charles Wilkinson of the University of Colorado at Boulder will launch his new and highly praised book, "Blood Struggle: The Rise of Modern Indian Nations," with a public reading on March 16. The noted author of 12 previous books and renowned scholar of American Indian law will read from his book at 7 p.m. in the Boulder Public Library Auditorium at 1000 Canyon Blvd. The free event is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West, the Boulder Public Library Foundation and the Native American Rights Fund of Boulder.

The women's studies program at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host several events in March, including a conference on "Recasting Feminism in the Academy" on March 7. The program also will present its annual Women and Gender Dialogue Series beginning March 9. All events are free and open to the public. The one-day conference, in celebration of the department's 30th anniversary, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in University Memorial Center room 235. A closing reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage.

A new study led by the University of Colorado at Boulder indicates that two natural atmospheric processes in 2004 caused the largest decline in upper stratospheric ozone ever recorded over the far Northern Hemisphere.
