Warmer air temperatures since the 1980s may explain significant increases in zinc and other metal concentrations of ecological concern in a Rocky Mountain watershed, reports a new study led by the U.S. Geological Survey and the 暗网禁区.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will address the role of public lands in American life at the 暗网禁区 on Sept. 13 as part of a conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of the General Land Office. Salazar鈥檚 talk is part of a conference titled 鈥淭he Nation Possessed:鈥═he Conflicting Claims on America鈥檚 Public Lands鈥� being held at CU-Boulder Sept. 11-14. The conference is sponsored by the Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation.

An adult bear visited campus Thursday morning in the Grandview neighborhood. CU Police, Boulder Police, Boulder open space rangers and the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife responded to the scene. Luckily, the bear wandered away from campus some time Thursday night. After roaming around the area for a while, the bear settled next to a tree for approximately 30 minutes. It then scaled the tree shortly after noon and rested on a branch about 35 feet up, and remained there until some time Thursday night when it decided to come down and leave the area.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court will give the keynote address at the University of Colorado Law School鈥檚 Gathering of the Bench and Bar Conference to be held Sept. 19-21 in Boulder.

Early last spring, Jessie Zweibel started thinking about how she could spend her summer. That鈥檚 when a campus email came across her screen, seeking applicants for an internship program in Washington, D.C. Zweibel was one of more than a dozen CU-Boulder students who spent the summer in Washington, D.C., as part of CU in DC , an internship program developed by the College of Arts and Sciences that is open to all students in the college.

The University of Colorado鈥檚 Division of Continuing Education has come a long way from its humble beginnings in young Macky Auditorium where burlap bags separated staff space in 1912 and the division offered 28 correspondence courses in 11 fields. Today, Continuing Education partners with CU鈥檚 academic departments to offer flexible credit courses representing 35 departments and multiple programs granting nontraditional students and community members access to campus.

On Tuesday, Sept. 4, my office sponsored a campus town hall meeting at the University Memorial Center on issues related to concealed carry at CU-Boulder. I want to thank the 100 or so faculty, staff, students and community members who attended the meeting and shared their concerns and observations on implementing the law at CU-Boulder. For those of you who could not attend, I wanted to share with you the issues that were raised and some of the responses offered by the panel, which included Chancellor DiStefano, me, Senior Managing Associate Legal Counsel John Sleeman, and Commander Robert Axmacher of the CU Police Department.
