Author Ivan Doig To Receive Stegner Award From CU-Boulder's Center Of The American West On Sept. 27

Ivan Doig, the acclaimed author of "This House of Sky" and 10 other books often set in Montana, will receive the Wallace Stegner Award from the University of Colorado at Boulder's Center of the American West on Thursday, Sept. 27. The center's highest award will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Wolf Law Building courtroom. The evening will feature a discussion with Doig conducted by Patty Limerick, professor of history and chair and faculty director of the Center of the American West, and Charles Wilkinson, distinguished professor of law at CU-Boulder.

CU Fashion Show To Raise Money For Science Scholarships

A fashion show to raise money for science scholarships will feature students modeling outfits they have designed and created, and will be held at the home of CU-Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by Val Peterson, wife of Chancellor Peterson, the event will raise funds for Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, or ARCS, a national foundation dedicated to giving students scholarships in the natural sciences, medicine and engineering. The show is not open to the public.

CU-Boulder Professor Marvin Caruthers Gives $20 Million To Boost Biotech Building, Bolstering Collaborative Research

A $20 million gift from University of Colorado at Boulder Distinguished Professor Marvin Caruthers will be the linchpin for construction of a new interdisciplinary biotechnology building on the CU-Boulder campus, a facility expected to revolutionize biotechnology and biomedical research and teaching, CU-Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson announced Tuesday. The gift is one of the largest in the history of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the largest ever by a faculty member.

Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson of the University of Colorado at Boulder will announce a major new initiative and related funding on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. following his annual Campus Address. The chancellor's announcement will be in the chapel auditorium on the second floor of Old Main. Peterson's annual Campus Address also will be in the chapel beginning at 8:40 a.m. The address follows an introduction by physics Professor Uriel Nauenburg at 8:30 a.m. and a continental breakfast on the Norlin Quadrangle at 7:30 a.m.

CU Planetarium's Astronomy Day To Feature Show In Spanish

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium will host Colorado Astronomy Day, featuring telescope demonstrations, talks and star shows, including one in Spanish, on Saturday, Sept. 15. Colorado Astronomy Day is part of CU-Boulder's Arts and Culture Week featuring the artistic and cultural highlights of the Boulder campus through a series of events from Sept. 13 through Sept. 20. The planetarium events are free and open to the public and begin at 1 p.m.

CU-Boulder Alums Who 'Survived' The '60s To Reunite At Homecoming

Forty years after the Summer of Love, a group of University of Colorado at Boulder journalism graduates will reunite at this year's homecoming celebration to reminisce about the 1960s, reconnect with old friends and examine the rapid-fire changes occurring in American journalism. "There will be soft food, soft music and bright lights," joked Dwight Stephens, a retired advertising executive and real-estate developer who lives in Carefree, Ariz., and is one of several reunion organizers.

U.S.S. Colorado Alumni to Visit CU-Boulder Sept. 7

Approximately 95 former shipmates, spouses and relatives from the World War II-era battleship U.S.S. Colorado will visit the University of Colorado at Boulder on Friday, Sept. 7. The alumni group will arrive at the University Memorial Center at 11:30 a.m. for a visit to the Veterans Lounge on the second floor of the UMC. The ship's wheel and bell and a cast-iron scale model of the battleship are on permanent display in the lounge, along with the 48-star American flag that flew on the ship during World War II.

She was celebrating her recent graduation from the MBA program at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the start of a new career as a green-building consultant. Results Of 'Community Of Soundscapes' Project To Be Presented By CU-Boulder Researchers

An acoustic map of Boulder's sonic environment created by a cadre of volunteers working with the University of Colorado at Boulder will be presented to the community Sept. 14 at a demonstration and talk on "Capturing and Sharing Sonic Experiences." The presentation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the ATLAS auditorium at CU-Boulder. The ATLAS building is located on 18th Street directly north of the Euclid Avenue Autopark.
