10 ways to exude confidence (even if you don’t have it)

Oct. 29, 2013

Confidence may not always come naturally, but no one has to know that. Between social situations, academic presentations, and work environments, seeming confident is the trick to feeling more comfortable and sure of your choices. Body language, patience, a big smile, and just knowing where your strengths lie can make showing off that confidence a simple task, even if you don’t always feel up to the situation. For more tips on “faking it ‘til you make it,” check out this month’s free issue of Student Health 101 online magazine.

From the BFA: Faculty recognition program – call for nominees

Oct. 28, 2013

In addition to dedication to their students and their research, many educators at the University of Colorado quietly perform service to the CU community – locally, nationally and internationally – often going far beyond what is expected of them. This service may take the form of acting as a faculty advisor to a student group or society; organizing a lecture series on campus or in the local community; or serving on a task force to address critical issues affecting the University. Beginning this year, BFA is acknowledging these unsung contributions through the Faculty Recognition Program.

Boulder Faculty Assembly: October message from the Chair

Oct. 25, 2013

The Boulder Faculty Assembly has been a fixture on the CU-Boulder campus for over two decades. Many of you are familiar with the BFA through the annual BFA Faculty Excellence Awards. With committees addressing issues as diverse as athletics, diversity, and campus budgeting, the BFA is actively working on topics affecting many areas of campus. However, as the new Chair of the BFA, the most frequent question I hear from faculty members is, “What does BFA actually accomplish?” To help answer this question, this column will be a monthly message updating the campus on what activities the BFA is currently undertaking. And this year, the BFA has a new look, new initiatives, and a renewed focus on building faculty engagement. Read more >>

From the VCA: Become an active partner in campus closure policy, implementation

Oct. 25, 2013

The Boulder campus recently had a chance to show its resiliency and adaptability in the face of an extreme weather campus closure. The September flooding provided a multi-day implementation of many of the policies and procedures our campus has in place for closures and emergencies, and I join Chancellor DiStefano in extending my deep appreciation for how our community reacted to the crisis. Earlier this month I sent our annual reminder of campus closing procedures during emergencies, and I want to make sure you are familiar with its key points. I encourage you to become an active partner when we respond to closure situations – by knowing what you should do and how to find the information you need.
