New CU-Boulder Office To Assist Military Veterans In Their Transition To College Students

When combat veteran Matt Grove returned from Afghanistan and became a University of Colorado at Boulder student, he joined a growing number of college students who are also war veterans. To help determine the needs of this growing population of students and ease the transition from military to civilian life as a student, CU-Boulder has opened a new Office of Veterans Affairs.

Nov. 8 Navajo Rug Auction To Benefit CU Museum Of Natural History

More than 100 Navajo weavings, contemporary and antique, will be sold on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the 22nd Annual Benefit Silent Auction for the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History. This year's auction will be held at the Nighthorse Campbell Native Health Building at the Anschutz Medical Campus, 13055 E. 17th Ave. in Aurora. Buyers may begin placing bids at noon and the auction closes at 7 p.m. Weavings, including pieces from Two Grey Hills, Crystal, Shiprock, Ganado, the Burnham area and more, ranging in value from $100 to $10,000, will be available for sale.

Science-Based Artworks By CU Faculty And Students On Display At Fiske Planetarium Nov. 1 To Dec. 31

An exhibition of 30 images combining science and art created by University of Colorado scientists, students and artists will be on view at CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. The exhibition, "Art in Science/Science in Art," is part of a growing movement in the art world in which scientific principles are illustrated in artworks. The exhibition will open at CU-Boulder with a public reception at Fiske Planetarium on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Colorado Center For Biorefining And Biofuels Announces $500,000 In Seed Grants For Research

A joint center of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado State University, the Colorado School of Mines, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and industry has announced $500,000 in grants to 10 teams pursuing renewable energy research ranging from the solar conversion of plant material for fuels to genetic crop engineering.

CU Friends Of The Libraries Presents CU Solves The 'Mystery Of The Anasazi'

The University of Colorado at Boulder Friends of the Libraries will host a lecture titled "CU Solves the 'Mystery of the Anasazi' " by Professor Steve Lekson on Saturday, Nov. 10. The event will be held at 10 a.m. in Paleontology Hall of the CU Museum of Natural History, located in the Henderson Building. The talk is free and open to the public and a light lunch will follow the presentation.

CU-Boulder Still Accepting Weekend Clothing Donations; Collection Site Moves To Regent Hall On Monday

The University of Colorado at Boulder will continue to accept donations of clothing, sheets, blankets, towels and simple household items at the CU Recreation Center throughout the weekend to aid victims of Friday morningÂ’s Gold Run Condominium fire. Donations will be accepted at the front desk of the CU Recreation Center through midnight on Sunday night. The CU Recreation Center is most easily accessible from Folsom Street on the access road that runs behind the Dal Ward Athletic Center at the north end of Folsom Stadium.

Additional Services Made Available To Victims Of Gold Run Condo Fire; Number Of Students And Others Affected Still Uncertain

The fire at the Gold Run Condominium Complex has displaced an unknown number of University of Colorado at Boulder students and other residents, though early estimates indicated more than 20 CU-Boulder students may be affected. The number of people affected is not certain as Boulder Fire Department officials investigate the remains of the structure from a blaze that began early today at about 2:45 a.m.

Victims Of Today's Gold Run Condominium Fire Asked To Assemble At Condo Health Center; Temporary Lodging, Meal Service Made Available

A fire at the Gold Run Condominium Complex that started about 2:45 a.m. this morning has displaced an unknown number of University of Colorado at Boulder students and other residents. Three people were admitted to Boulder Community Hospital for smoke inhalation. At this point serious injuries have not been reported, according to officials at the scene. It is not yet known if any of the three people admitted to Boulder Community Hospital were CU-Boulder students.
